Hi! I’m Christian McKenzie, a potter currently based in Fort Scott, KS. I harvest local wild clay from a nearby river and process, throw, and fire the clay by myself in my home studio. I try to make pieces that are functional and remind us to take a moment to pause. I strive to project into the world the peace I feel when I interact with clay :)
Goals
Make use of as many local resources as I can
Be mindful and intentional
Create objects that capture the ephemeral and enduring aspects of clay
Craft and Process
My process unfolds through slow, mindful steps
Gather and refine raw clay
Wheel-throw each form
Make and apply glazes/surface treatments that highlight the clay’s natural character
Fire in small batches in my little kiln
Looking Forward
My intention is to continue learning what pottery has to teach me, work on my dialogue with clay, and create vessels that encourage people to slow down—whether they’re holding a cup of tea or admiring a vase of flowers. I feel grateful for every chance to grow and explore my love for the process of making pottery. I hope you enjoy the work.
